Restore Order: The New Year Decluttering Guide

Living among disorder and clutter drains your energy and robs you of storage space. Did you know your environment has a huge impact on your behaviour and potential? As we enter the new year, here are some quick ideas to help you get on top of decluttering in 2023.

The 30-day challenge

This is one for the whole family. Put aside one thing to declutter on the first day, two on the second, three on the third, and so on, until on the 30th day you have over 400 items you no longer want.

The 15 fling

Get a basket, set a your phone timer for five minutes. Go around the room and fill it with 15 things you no longer need.

Tote bag tidy up

Hang a tote bag on every door handle and when you find something in that room you longer need, drop it into the bag. When it’s full, drop it off at the charity shop.

But what to do with all the clothes and accessories?

Tackle the chairdrobe first. Put away everything you can and put dirty clothes in the laundry basket. An easy win to spur you on.

Work out what you want to store or digitise, and what you can sell(Tip: if you have winter pieces to sell, it’s best to list them quick as they sell better before February).

But don’t let good intentions turn into another form of procrastination. Are you really going to photograph, list, and pack the item yourself? Sometimes it is better to just get PAKT.
