PAKT Pick: Anya Hindmarch’s I Am A Plastic Bag

With the 2007 launch of I Am Not A Plastic Bag, Anya Hindmarch’s £5 canvas tote raised awareness of the use and the misuse of plastic bags, and now thirteen years later the designer is embracing recycled plastic, with the launch of I Am A Plastic Bag.

It took Hindmarch two years to develop a high enough quality rPET plastic (each bag is made from 32 recycled 500ml PET bottles) that had the supple, luxe feel of cotton canvas. With Taiwan leading the way in technologically created recycled products, fabric production takes place in Asia before the bags are made in Italy.

Coated with recycled plastic windshield laminates (RPVB), and with sustainable leather trim and handles,  EcoAct, a global climate change consultancy, measures all the emissions produced by the production of the bags to ensure that the project remains carbon-neutral.  The tote can be personalised with a hand-stitched monogram and is available along with a range of accessories including wallets, pouches and make up bags in-store at Anya Hindmarch and online at Net A Porter and Matches Fashion
