For those that haven’t made the pilgrimage to Marfa, a small town in West Texas that has achieved almost mythical status, Cooking in Marfa: Welcome, We’ve Been Expecting You, is the story of this unique community told through the lens of food and the desert landscape that makes The Capri a destination unto itself.
This fine-dining oasis opened by arts philanthropist Virginia Lebermann in 2007, may be located in a most unlikely place, but it excels at serving the spectrum of guests that Marfa draws, from locals and ranchers to artists, museum-board members, and discerning creatives. Featuring full-page colour photography by Architectural Digest contributor and Marfa resident, Douglas Friedman, and includes 80 recipes from Virginia’s husband, chef of The Capri, Rocky Barnette.

While the Capri menu leans heavily on indigenous ingredients, from mesquite and yucca blossoms to Agarita berries, this is a book for food and art lovers alike, its high low sensibility and Mexican inflection making it as much an inspiring cookbook as it is an artful coffee table tome.
