Wardrobe Insider: Nicole Froelich

As one of Asia’s most in-demand wedding planners, nobody knows how to set the mood like Nicole Froelich. The creative force behind Nicole Please, her bespoke wedding event company, she has chalked Celina Jade and Han Geng’s wedding among stellar events she’s planned over the last few years.  Born in Zurich, the half Taiwanese, multi-lingual, whirlwind started her career in hospitality, but quickly became known for her cross-cultural, wedding extravaganzas. From her personal style and shopping tips to coveting JLo’s wardrobe, Nicole speaks to PAKT about the dream collaboration she wishes she had done — and why Olivia Culpo is her ultimate fashion inspiration.

1) Describe your style in 3 words

Feminine, cozy and chic.

2) What’s the most precious item in your wardrobe and why?

My Galia Lahav velvet jumpsuit. It’s a beautiful, deep midnight blue, velvet jumpsuit with an open low back and of course, Galia’s signature figure hugging, sheer fabric that makes everything look smooth. I met Galia and her team years ago for my own wedding, and when I was planning the wedding of actress Celina Jade, we all flew into Shanghai for the final dress fitting, the Galia Lahav flagship store opening and fashion show on the Bund. Celina opened the show and Galia gifted me this gorgeous jumpsuit and a front row seat.

3) What’s your go to outfit?

Jumpsuits! I’ve got them all — short and long, casual and formal, sexy and comfy and, of course, in all colours.

4) Favourite piece you bought recently and why?

On my last trip to Shanghai, I bought these creative, hand-made handbags. My favourite one is the leather, electric guitar-shaped bag, that has a built-in speaker that you can connect via bluetooth to your Spotify. The other one is a giant faux cigarette box. Even though I have never smoked, it’s an eye-catching piece and always starts a conversation wherever I go.

5) What is the best fashion advice you have received?

Looking good is not about what you wear but how you feel when you wear it. So if you feel it, you represent it and you can pull off anything.

6) Who are your style icons?

Not necessarily an icon but my go-to person for hair, make up and style inspiration is Olivia Culpo. She’s so cozy-chic and pulls off a high-waist perfectly.

7) What’s your personal style signifier and why.

A high-waist, funky earrings and a touch of emerald green.

8) Less or more?

Just enough. I am a Libra in Sun and Libra in Moon so balance and beautiful details are in my DNA.

9) If you could have anyone’s wardrobe whose would it be and why?

Jennifer Lopez, because we’ve got a similar butt! It’s not always easy to find the right pieces that accent the right parts of my body.

10) If you were an item of clothing what would you be?

A bra. Always supportive and reliable.

11) What is a must have clothing item everyone must own?

An every occasion jumpsuit. Especially when you travel for a few days only and you need to pack light, this is the best way to do it.

12) Where do you love to shop?

Always while I’m travelling! I love mix and matching pieces from different places and being reminded of a fun shopping trip! Theres always a story and thats what life is about. So while gathering experiences, I gather clothing pieces at the same time.

13) If a museum asked you to donate one item from your wardrobe that represented you what would it be?

I own this beautiful burgundy red Maria Lucia Hohan dress because I love her fluid, metallic fabric with the lowest V-neck. It absolutely resonates with my life philosophy to go with the flow.

14) What will we never find in your wardrobe?

A mink coat. In short, save the animals.

15) What’s your number one fashion rule?

Find yourself and just represent who you truly are. Don’t listen to others because at the end of the day, it’s your life and it’s your style. There’s no-one else to please but yourself.

16) What is your dream project?

As a destination wedding planner, to organise a wedding with every tradition, every culture, every religion and country to really experience multi-ways of expressing love.

17) Dream collaborator?

I I wish Gwyneth Paltrow wasn’t already married. I would have loved to have planned her wedding! I am a huge GOOP follower, everything from the beauty section to the holistic insights.  From Wim Hof breathwork, yoni eggs and rose quartz rollers, it’s all totally my vibe. She would have been such an inspirational bride to work with.

18) Top 3 accounts to follow on social media

19) Favourite fashion apps?

I am a little boring here. I would only pick Instagram and Pinterest, because they are my go-to source of inspiration.

20) Where were the last three places you travelled to and what are the can’t miss shops?

Zurich: En Soie, the most typical Swiss heritage brand that’s modern yet contemporary. Freitag, just because their flagship store is containers stacked on top of each other and is super hip.

New Zealand: I went heavy on wool. I found the softest wool socks and sweaters.

Ibiza: a little local boutique at the beach for a boho-chic beach cover up.
